Sony Xperia XA1 review
Sony Xperia XA1 :
KEY FEATURES
- 5-inch 720p screen
- 23-megapixel camera
- 32GB storage
- 3GB RAM
- 2,300 mAh battery
- USB-C
- MediaTek Helio P20 CPU
- Manufacturer: Sony
- Review Price: to be confirmed
Clearly though, the looks are not dramatically different from the original and the chipset is still midrange at best. The screen resolution is the same too - so what's the big deal? Well, the real change is the 23MP primary camera.
Other tweaks can be spotted here and there. RAM's up to 3GB, and storage has doubled - the XA's 2GB/16GB allowance was barely acceptable last season, so it's good to see Sony make amends. One key area where an update opportunity was missed is battery capacity - the original 2,300mAh power pack could have used a bump.

Unboxing
The Xperia XA1 review unit arrived in a plain white cardboard box typical of the Xperia Xs. There are colors underneath the lid, but with a dominant black. It's not the explosion of color we were treated to on previous Xperias.
Inside just a charger (a plain 5V/1.5A one, at that), and a USB-A to USB-C cable.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I give the original Xperia XA a 3/5 score, and the follow-up looks to be going along a similar path. It looks quite nice, has an interesting camera and there should be plenty of power, but that screen just isn’t up to scratch.
